In the small North Hessian town of Liebenau in the Kassel district is Liebenau Castle, a baroque manor house. It was built on the site of a former moated castle and remains in private ownership to this day.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1293, when a moated castle was built. It changed hands several times and was held as a fief by the Lords of Pappenheim, von Löwenstein-Westerburg, and Spiegel von Desenberg, all vassals of the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn. Around 1465, the castle was destroyed during the Hessian-Paderborn Feud.
