Liebenau Castle

Liebenau Castle was already mentioned in 1217 as being in the possession of the Lords of Summerau. Over the years, the owners of the castle changed frequently. Thus, the property passed from the Counts of Montfort (1581) to Dr. Mathes Layman (1581 as an imperial fief), to Weingarten Abbey (1668), to the Princes of Nassau-Orange, and to the Habsburgs. Later it passed to Bavaria and finally in 1810 to Württemberg. The village was made into the Schultheißerei (mayoral office) of Liebenau. In 1870, the castle passed to Chaplain Adolf Aich, who dedicated the castle estate to its current purpose as a sanatorium and nursing home.
