History+

The origins of Liebenau Castle date back to 1217, when it was first mentioned as a castle owned by the Lords of Summerau. It belonged to the Counts of Montfort before passing to Dr. Mathes Layman as an imperial fief in 1581. Later, it was owned by Weingarten Abbey (from 1668), the Princes of Nassau-Orange, and the Habsburgs. Eventually, it came under Bavarian rule and in 1810, it became part of Württemberg.
