Liebenburg Castle

The origins of the Liebenburg site date back to 1292, when Bishop Siegfried II of Hildesheim had a castle built here. This served as an administrative and, from 1381, also a judicial seat. In the 18th century, it was decided to replace the old castle complex with a new palace. Between 1750 and 1754, the remains of the original Liebenburg Castle were almost completely demolished to make way for the new construction. Under Prince-Bishop Clemens August, a Bavarian prince, the construction of a pleasure and hunting palace began.
