Lieser Castle

Hotel

In the wine village of Lieser on the Moselle, not far from Bernkastel-Kues, is Lieser Castle, a historicist building. It shapes the townscape and has been a protected monument since 1981.

History+

The current castle was built between 1884 and 1887 on the site of an older manor house from 1710. The design and construction management were handled by the Frankfurt architect Heinrich Theodor Schmidt. It served as the family residence of the industrialist Eduard Puricelli, who was active in the gas business and also politically engaged. After his death in 1893, his daughter Maria inherited the castle in 1895. She was married to Clemens Freiherr von Schorlemer-Lieser, whose name the castle adopted.
