Liesing Castle

The estate was first documented in 1387 as a manor house under the names “Hausgraben” or “Auhof”. Between 1415 and 1435, it belonged to Georg Zeitlas, a local judge, before passing to Pastor Andreas Plank von Gars, who later became Chancellor to Albrecht II and gifted the estate to the Dorotheerkloster in Vienna. The two Turkish sieges of 1529 and 1683 damaged the estate, with it being almost completely destroyed in 1683. Legend has it that only a hazelnut tree in the castle park was spared, which later inspired the Liesing coat of arms. After its reconstruction, the manor house was expanded into a castle at the beginning of the 18th century, allegedly hosting Emperor Charles VI. After being separated from the church, the castle changed hands several times, including Joseph Edler von Kurzböck and, in 1732, court jeweler Valentin von Mack.
