Linnep Castle

The origins of the Linnep knight's seat date back to the 11th century, as evidenced by a document from Kaiserswerth Abbey. The oldest surviving parts of the building date from the 12th century. In 1769, a new building was erected on the site of the original castle, with the round tower with a pointed roof and parts of the curtain wall being integrated into the new ensemble. Further additions followed after 1855. Until 1461, the castle was the ancestral seat of the Knights and Lords of Linnep. Through marriage, the lordship then passed to the Counts of Limburg. From 1582, the reformed Isselstein family inhabited the castle, initially as a pledge, later as owners.
