Litzlberg Castle

Litzlberg's origins date back to the early 14th century when it passed as a fief from Mondsee to Winter von Windern. In 1498, the castle changed hands when Preunhuber sold it to Martin von Polheim. The following centuries were marked by changes of ownership, including Weikart von Polheim in 1603 and Johann von Khunitz in 1655. An engraving from 1674 depicts Litzlberg as a complex with a square tower and a round tower, protected by a wooden bridge and palisades. In 1780, the already dilapidated masonry was dismantled to provide material for the reconstruction of the market town of Schörfling.
