Loburg Castle

The estate was first documented in 1294 as 'Lohaus'. Around 1400, with the marriage of Kunigunde von Bevern and Dietrich Stael, it came into the possession of the Stael family and was referred to as a castle. In the 15th century, the complex underwent a partial expansion with fortifications. After a childless marriage between Anna Stael zu Loburg and Heinrich von Münster, an inheritance division occurred around 1559. Later, in 1649, Elisabeth Anna Droste zu Loburg brought the estate into her marriage with Adolf von Nagel, making the von Nagel family owners for 134 years. Due to the poor condition of the castle, Josef Marsil Wilhelm Xaver von Nagel and his wife Maria planned the construction of a Baroque palace. Thus, the old castle was demolished in 1760, and a new Baroque palace was built according to plans by Johann Conrad Schlaun by 1766.
