Lösnich Castle, once the ancestral seat of a knightly family, is a structure in the municipality of Lösnich. Although it no longer exists in its original form, preserved sections and historical documents attest to its former significance as a moated castle and residential complex in a valley location.

History+

The history of Lösnich Castle is closely linked to the knightly family of Lösnich, first documented in 1226. The castle itself received its first official mention in 1368 when it was granted as a Cologne electoral fief to Heinrich Beyer von Boppard and Lisa von Lösnich. It is presumed that the complex existed prior to this date, possibly on the site of a Frankish farm. In the late 17th century, the estate came into the possession of the Barons of Metternich and Kesselstatt. A 1693 site plan shows the castle with a moat and an area of approximately 100x100 feet.
