Ludwigsburg Castle

The castle's origins date back to 1586, when Duke Ernst Ludwig of Pomerania-Wolgast gifted the former Eldena monastery estate of Dersim to his wife, Sophie Hedwig of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel. With an additional 1000 guilders, she was able to build a castle there. After the Duke's death in 1592, Sophie Hedwig renamed the location Ludwigsburg. The castle changed hands multiple times, including to Duke Philipp Julius and Anna von Croÿ. In 1650, General Burchard Müller von der Lühne acquired it, and his family owned it until 1747. It later passed to Philipp Ernst von Horn and in 1776 to the Swedish Lieutenant Colonel Friedrich Ernst Sebastian von Klinckowström, who had a late Baroque park laid out in the late 18th century.
