In Rudolstadt, Thuringia, stands Ludwigsburg Castle, a three-winged city palace built in the Baroque style. It was constructed in the 18th century below Heidecksburg Castle and is distinguished by its architecturally emphasized central wing featuring a Rococo hall.

The construction of Ludwigsburg Castle took place between 1734 and 1741. This site likely housed an older castle, which was destroyed as early as 1345. An existing round tower from this predecessor structure is said to have been demolished in 1730 for the construction of the palace. Ludwigsburg initially served as the residence for Prince Ludwig Günther, uncle of Prince Johann Friedrich of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. After Ludwig Günther succeeded his nephew in 1767, he moved to Heidecksburg Castle.
