In Lübben, Brandenburg, on the southern edge of the old town and bordering the Spreewald, stands a historic structure with origins dating back to the Middle Ages: Lübben Castle. The complex, built on the site of a former 12th-century moated castle, is a blend of various epochs.

History+

The current form of Lübben Castle likely developed in the late Middle Ages, with the tower considered the oldest part. A first renovation took place in 1561, followed by a major reconstruction under Duke Christian I of Saxony-Merseburg. During this period, the still-preserved stables and a now-destroyed counterpart were built. Between 1899 and 1917, a historical restoration was carried out under Adolf Zeller, shaping the castle's present appearance. In April 1945, the complex sustained significant damage during World War II. After the war, the then-owners were dispossessed.
