Lüftelberg Castle

The first documented mention of Lüftelberg moated castle dates back to 1280. Originally, it was the center of the Lordship of Berge, later known as Lüftelberge. In 1358, ownership transferred from Dietrich von Volmenstein to the Vischenich brothers. From 1448 to 1548, the complex was owned by the Lords of Gymnich, followed by the Schall von Bell family. From the mid-17th century, it belonged to the von Vorst-Lombeck family. Under Josef Clemens von der Vorst zu Lombeck, the medieval castle was transformed into a Baroque palace between 1775 and 1780 by court architect Johann Heinrich Roth. In 1827, ownership passed to the von Jordan family through inheritance. The castle suffered significant damage during World War II.
