Lützelbuch Castle

The first mention of the former knight's estate was in 1496, when Albrecht von Brandenstein bought the property. In 1823, Duke Ernst I acquired it and leased out the domain. Under Duke Ernst II, in 1872, large parts of the land were sold to local farmers, and a rural poorhouse was established in the castle along with the remaining seven hectares of land. After Coburg's annexation to Bavaria in 1920, the institution came under the Free State, which transferred it in 1923 to the Neuendettelsau Deaconess Institute with the condition that it continue as a nursing home for old and infirm people. The Diakonie expanded the Lützelbuch nursing home in the following decades. In 1931, a new retirement home was built, in 1936 a chapel, and in 1988 a nursing home. In 1990, a staff residence was completed, and in 1998, a replacement building for the retirement home.
