Lützschena Castle

Lützschena was first mentioned in 1278 when Bishop Friedrich of Merseburg acquired the land of the present castle. In 1404, Wilhelm von Üchtritz acquired the property. The castle remained in family ownership for a very long time and was damaged several times in the wars of the era - for example in 1547, during the Thirty Years' War, and in the Napoleonic Wars. In 1822, Maximilian Ritter von Speck (since 1829 Freiherr von Sternburg) bought the property at auction. In 1864, the old baroque castle was demolished and subsequently rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style. In 1945, the owners were expropriated and expelled by the communists. After 1945, it was used as an agricultural school. For this purpose, an additional floor was added to the castle. In 1994, the castle underwent makeshift renovation. In 2002, the families von Truchsess and von Erffa bought the castle.
