Lykkesholm Castle, an estate in the Danish region of Syddanmark, is now a hotel. Originally stemming from a medieval castle called Magelund, it was relocated to its current site by the mill lake in the early 15th century and completely encircled by water through an artificial moat.

History+

The origins of Lykkesholm lie in Magelund Castle, which emerged at the end of the 13th century and was first documented in 1329. During a period of political turmoil, when large parts of Funen were mortgaged to Holstein counts, Magelund changed hands multiple times. Under King Valdemar Atterdag and later Queen Margrethe I, many castles not in royal possession were destroyed or razed. Queen Margrethe I acquired Magelund in 1391. The oldest surviving building of Lykkesholm is the west wing with its tower from the mid-17th century.
