In the Heilbronn district, above the municipality of Cleebronn, lies Magenheim Castle, one of Germany's best-preserved Staufer-era castle complexes. This structure has origins dating back to the 13th century.

History+

The first mention of the locality of Magenheim dates to 793, though it later disappeared. The Lords of Magenheim appeared in the 12th century and possessed two nearby castles: the vanished Obermagenheim Castle and the present-day Niedermagenheim Castle, which formed the foundation for today's palace. Architectural studies suggest that Niedermagenheim Castle was built between 1220 and 1250 and underwent several modifications.
