In the north of Klagenfurt is Mageregg Castle, a castle-like building, originally constructed in 1590. The property acquired its current appearance in the mid-19th century through renovations. Today, it houses a restaurant and serves as a venue for cultural events.

History+

The construction of Mageregg moated castle in 1590 is attributed to Wolfgang III. Mager von Fuchsstatt. Built in Renaissance style, the castle had a hook-shaped layout and featured five corner towers. After the builder's death, the property changed hands several times, including Anna Freifrau von Teuffenbach (1607) and Carl von Egg and Hungersbach (1622). Following his expulsion as a Protestant in 1628, Georg Mageregg took over the castle, and its name is likely derived from him. Further changes in ownership occurred until Thomas von Moro acquired the property in 1840. In 1845, he initiated a complete renovation based on plans by Peter Rudolfi, during which the original southeast section was demolished and a new tower was added. The facade was renewed.
