Mahlitz Castle

The origins of Mahlitz Castle and estate are presumed to be in the Wendish settlement area and were already mentioned as "Malici" in 948. In the 12th century, the place was called "Malicin." In the 14th century, the area around Mahlitz became desolate. In 1872, the estate belonged to Major Rudolf von Katte and was at that time an outwork of the Wust estate. After expansions, the manor gained the status of a court location. Kuno von Katte, the Major's son, later took over the management of the castle and the associated, approximately 1,000-hectare estate. The estate existed until the end of World War II, after which it was divided as part of the land reform.
