Mahlitz Castle

Mahlitz Castle is a castle in Saxony-Anhalt, located about 7 km from Schollene in the district of Mahlitz.

The castle and the estate are presumably of Wendish origin and were already mentioned in 948 as Malici. In the 12th century, it was called Malicin. In the 14th century, the village and estate of Mahlitz became "desolate".

In 1872, Mahlitz belonged to a Major Rudolf von Katte. It was an outwork belonging to Wust. After an expansion, the manor became a court location. Kuno von Katte, the son of Major Rudolf von Katte, took over the affairs of the castle with its associated 1,000-hectare estate.

The estate existed until the end of the Second World War and was then divided up by the land reform. The former owners had to flee or observe the prescribed exclusion zones. The castle was used for residential purposes by the municipality of Schollene until 2003. Today it belongs to the Tangermünde merchant Thomas Sturm, who restored it. The burial site of the von Katte family is located in the park.
