Mamling Castle

Mamling Castle is located in the Innviertel in the Upper Austrian municipality of Mining (Mamling 3).

The first mention of a castle in Mamling dates back to 1297, when an Otto von Mamling is named. The Mamlingers remained in possession of the castle until 1519. In that year, Friedrich der Mamlinger sold the property to Wolfgang Elrechinger zu Hueb. The Elrechingers had a crypt chapel in Mining as a burial place. Around 1610, Wolf Rudolf Golt von Lampoting appeared as the heir of the Elrechingers. In 1619, he sold Mamling to Count Helfrich von Meggau. Around 1650, the property passed to the Barons von Lerchenfeld. Johann Kaspar Freiherr von Lerchenfeld had the old castle demolished and a moated castle with a chapel built in its place. According to Michael Wening's engraving, Mamling was a single-story building with onion domes and surrounded by a pond. Outside the moat were the castle chapel and a park. The chapel next to the castle was built in 1671. In 1675, Johann Kaspar Freiherr von Lerchenfeld established a benefice.

Maria Franziska von Lerchenfeld received the castle in 1710 as a dowry upon her marriage to Count Johann Wilhelm von Abensperg-Traun. The marriage remained childless, and the property passed to the Counts von Törring-Jettenbach in 1748. In 1831, Heinrich von Bohn from Munich acquired the castle; he also had no direct descendants upon his death in 1848. Until 1848, Mamling held the Vogtship and jurisdiction. Baron Christian von Esebeck bought the castle and united it with Sunzing. Count Zdenko von Strachwitz acquired both properties in 1870. Under him, the conversion to its current form took place. The previously existing turrets were removed, and the pond was largely filled in. After his death in 1919, Mamling passed into bourgeois ownership. The buyer was the master builder Franz Wiesner from Altheim. In 1921, he handed the castle over to his daughter Juliana, married Achleitner. The castle is still owned by this family today.
