Maria-Loretto Castle

In 1650, Johann Andreas von Rosenberg acquired the peninsula and, in 1652, had a castle built there with numerous towers and portals. However, a fire in 1708 destroyed large parts of this complex, with only a few freestanding towers remaining. The building erected afterwards presented itself in a simpler form. Originally, the castle was located on an island, but later embankments and silting transformed it into a peninsula. The detailed history of the peninsula, recorded in three handwritten volumes, is owned by a former co-owner. The castle remained in the possession of the Orsini-Rosenberg family for a long time before being acquired by the city of Klagenfurt at the end of 2002.
