Mariakirchen Castle

The origins of today's Mariakirchen Castle date back to 1550. At that time, Georg von Closen and Barbara von Nothaft had the moated castle built in its present form. A stone Renaissance portal in the inner courtyard, adorned with the marital coat of arms of the Closen-Nothaft families, dates from this era. In 1848, the estate passed into the possession of the Counts of Deym. The castle underwent revitalization from 2002 when Lindner AG acquired it and carried out renovations. The medieval complex was once a water castle, protected by a double moat fed by the Kollbach stream. One of these moats was uncovered during the renovation and provided with a new bridge, while the second moat is still visible on three sides.
