North of Skara in the Swedish province of Västergötland stands Mariedal Castle, a Baroque castle that has remained largely unchanged to this day.

History+

The origins of Mariedal Castle date back to 1666. At that time, Lord High Chancellor Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie commissioned the architect Jean de la Vallée to build a castle on the Sörbo estate. The completed structure, consisting of a main building and two wings, was named in honor of De la Gardie's wife, Maria Euphrosine.
