History+
The origins of Marienlyst Palace date back to 1588, when it was constructed as a royal pleasure palace in sight of Kronborg Castle. It was never used for this function. In 1760, the building underwent a transformation and expansion by architect Nicolas-Henri Jardin, who gave it its current neoclassical character. King Christian VII later presented the palace to Juliane of Brunswick, his father's second wife and widow. After 1858, the estate served as a spa hotel for a period.
