Marisfeld Castle

The first documented mention of Marisfeld Castle, then still a valley castle, dates back to around 1100. The complex suffered several destructions, with the last recorded in 1641. The current castle, with its four towers, was built in 1665 under Eva Maria Magdalena Marschalk von Ostheim. After the death of Baron Franz Friedrich Marschalk von Ostheim in 1814, the castle changed hands and was sold to Christian Friedrich von Stockmar from Coburg, who initiated a restoration. In 1882, Hermann von Eichel acquired the property, but later fell into financial difficulties and sold it in 1936 to Ludwig Krämer from Duisburg. Krämer founded the Käthe-Krämer-Stiftung, which used the castle as a children's recreation home.
