Markvippach Castle

The origins of Markvippach lie in the amalgamation of an upper and lower village. At times, the Lords of Schloßvippach resided here, and the Vitzthume of Eckstedt also owned a manor. The first mention of a moated manor house dates back to 1387. Around 1620, this complex was rebuilt. After a fire in 1812, a New Castle was erected diagonally opposite the Old Castle, the original moated castle, whose gate and covered passage already dated from 1780. After the extinction of the line of the Lords of Drachenfels in 1644, ownership of the moated castle passed to the Lords of Leutsch, followed by the families of Miltitz and von Kellner. In 1945, the owners were expropriated and expelled. Both castles then served as accommodation for refugee families.
