In the municipality of Mauern in the district of Freising stands Mauern Castle, a modest Baroque palace. Traces of human settlement date up to 7500 years BCE, and a predecessor building dates from the year 1000 AD.

Archaeological findings confirm an almost continuous settlement of the Mauern site over millennia. Within the area of the current castle, post traces of a predecessor building, dated around the year 1000, were discovered. The current, simple two-story Baroque castle with a mansard roof was constructed in the first half of the 18th century.
