Mauern Castle

Mauern Castle is a small Baroque castle in Mauern in the district of Freising. Archaeological excavations by the Archaeological Association in the district of Freising have shown that Mauern was already settled about 7500 years ago and has had continuous lively settlement ever since. Recent investigations in the castle revealed post traces of a predecessor building dating back to around 1000 AD. The current castle is a simple two-story Baroque building with a mansard roof, built in the first half of the 18th century. The castle with its Hofmark (manorial court) was owned by numerous noble families over time. The Kuttenauers exercised the Hofmark jurisdiction from 1544 to 1585. Their successors were the Preysings from 1585 to 1641. Later followed the families La Rosée and von Ostini. The last owner, Count von Moy, sold the castle to the municipality of Mauern in 2001.
