Maxen Castle

Maxen is first mentioned in 1307 as being in the possession of the Maxin family. In 1335, Maxen is named in a document from Stolpen. From 1316–1548, Maxen belonged to the Karras family. In 1501, the villages of Maxen, Mühlbach, Schmorsdorf, Crotta, Cunnersdorf near Glashütte, and Häselich belonged to the manor. In 1558, ownership transferred to the von Schönberg family. In 1819, the former Prussian Major Johann Friedrich Anton von Serre bought the Maxen manor. After this, ownership changed in 1881 to the Uhle family, in 1899 to the von Tauchnitz family, in 1916 to Otto Heinrich Büttner, and from 1927 until their expropriation and expulsion by the Communists in 1945 to the Trebbin family. Subsequently, a retirement home was housed in the castle. In 1993, a support association "Museum of Saxon Agriculture Maxen Manor e. V." was founded. Since 2003, the castle has been in private ownership - the local history museum can be visited.
