Maxhofen Castle, a building in the district of Rosenheim, today serves as a rural boarding school. Originally known as Einhofen, it was shaped by noble families and various uses.

History+

Around 1700, the estate, then known as Einhofen, was the ancestral seat of the Ainhover family. After being acquired in a dilapidated state by Wolfgang Scherr around 1650, it was rebuilt by 1661. In 1683, the estate passed to Count Maximilian von Preising, the Lord Chamberlain of Bavaria. He renamed it Maxhofen, was granted lower jurisdiction, and received recognition as a Hofmark. Under his patronage, outbuildings and a castle chapel were constructed, and a farm was separated, which still bears the name Einhofen.
