Meires Castle

Meires Castle

To be privately owned

To the east of Meires stands a three-winged former Renaissance moated castle, built around 1574. The two-story, south-facing complex has a shorter east wing. Remnants of plaster bands and corner-stone framing are visible. The round corner towers at the southeast corner and on the north wing are topped with conical roofs with wooden shingles, crowned by lantern attachments with onion domes. The castle is accessible through a barrel-vaulted passage with lunettes in the western wing.
