History+

The origins of Meisdorf Castle date back to 1708, when an initial structure with a castle park was built. A transformation occurred in 1787 under Achatz Ferdinand von der Asseburg, a court official and diplomat who owned both Meisdorf and Falkenstein Castle. As the original residence no longer met his demands and Falkenstein Castle was only used as a hunting lodge, he had a more spacious, albeit simpler, new castle built. The old residence was subsequently used as an official's dwelling. After the builder's death, the castle passed to the Neindorf line of the Asseburg family.
