Mellenthin Castle

The origins of the Mellenthin estate date back to the 14th century, when it served as the ancestral seat of the von Neuenkirchen family. Between 1575 and 1580, Rüdiger von Nienkerken, an advisor to Duke Ernst Ludwig of Pomerania-Wolgast, had the current castle built. After the extinction of the Neuenkirchen family in 1641 and the end of the Thirty Years' War, the estate passed into the possession of Johan Axelsson Oxenstierna, enfeoffed by the Swedish Queen Christina. A few years later, General Burchard Müller von der Lühne acquired the property, whose descendants held it until 1747.
