Menningen Castle

The origins of Menningen Castle lie in the 12th century, when the Lords of Menningen erected the first fortress here. In 1348, the castle was owned by the Truchsesses of Rohrdorf. Later, in 1391, the Gremlich von Jungingen family acquired the castle and the associated village from the Lords of Zimmern. Ulrich Gremlich is mentioned as the new owner in 1437. In 1627, the property passed to the Princes of Fürstenberg. A reconstruction took place in 1732 by the Counts of Zimmern. In 1852, the Princely House of Fürstenberg sold the castle to the local parish, which used it as a rectory until 1974. Subsequently, it was rented to private individuals until 2002.
