Merzhausen Castle, once also known as Bollschweiler Castle, is a former moated castle in the municipality of Merzhausen near Freiburg im Breisgau. Its building fabric dates back to the late 16th century.

History+

The origins of Merzhausen Castle may lie in the Bitzehof, which is said to have once stood on the same site. The building still preserved today was probably erected around 1593. It is an elongated stone house characterized by two stepped gables and a half-timbered structure. In addition to the Reischach and von Schnewlin families, the Jesuits also shaped the history of the estate after Magdalena von Bollschweil bequeathed the entire lordship to them in 1635.
