In the Messendorf district of Graz, Messendorf Castle is a historic building that today houses a school. Its origins date back to the 13th century.

The history of Messendorf Castle begins in the 13th century, when a knightly family settled in the village of Mezzendorf around 1233 and named their estate after the locality. The property was also known as Breunerhof or Freischloss. Its first documented mention was in 1479 when it came into the possession of the Weißenegger family. From 1568, it belonged to the Counts of Lengheimb, who expanded it into a late Renaissance castle. Later, Countess Josefa Breuner acquired the property before it was sold to the Trauttmansdorff family in 1802 and served as a brewery.
