In Alzenau-Michelbach is Michelbach Castle, also known as Michelbacher Schlösschen. The baroque structure emerged from a 16th-century moated castle and now houses a museum and event spaces.

History+

The origins of Michelbach Castle lie in a moated castle from the 16th century. One of the first known owners was Rupertus de Willemin. Around the year 1700, a renovation under Baron Ferdinand Kaspar Joseph von Wrede gave the castle its current baroque appearance. Later, Marquis du Chastler acquired the property. After further changes of ownership, the castle passed into the possession of the Frankfurt city councilor David Domer in 1862. In 1930, the municipality of Michelbach bought the building from the Domer/Hendschel family.
