Michelfeld Castle

In the 13th and 14th centuries, the "Conradus de Michelvelt" family owned a castle in the village.

It was expanded into a moated castle. The description from 1604 describes the complex as follows: "The noble residence and castle ... with a gushing pipe and a draw well in the castle courtyard, so that it is entirely surrounded by a special wall, also a moat, then fortified by a castle bridge and gate, then the beautiful large forecourt ..., then further fortified with a special (= separate) gate." From the preceding information and the current remains, a rectangular complex around an inner courtyard can be inferred.

In 1604, Bernhard von Hutten offered his property to the Margrave. The Thirty Years' War left severe destruction. Julius Albrecht von Thüna rebuilt the castle and estate and incurred debt for it. On January 4, 1663, he and his son had to sell their property to Margrave Albrecht von Brandenburg. In 1713, the castle estate was divided into three properties and further sold with tithe obligations.
