The Castle can be visited

In the Bavarian Forest, Miltach Castle is situated. Originally begun around 1600, it acquired its present form in the mid-18th century. Today, the castle is privately owned and welcomes visitors for tours and cultural events.

History+

The castle's history began in 1572 when Justinian von Peilnstein, the illegitimate son of Duke Ernst of Bavaria, received the Miltach manor as a fief. Around 1600, Justinian had the core of the castle built. However, his heavily indebted son Hans Georg had to cede the feudal lordship to Hans Georg von Weichs as early as 1616. After further changes of ownership, including Hans Georg Reitturnier von Schöllnach and Johann Wilhelm von Leiblfing, Isak Heinrich von Schönbrunn gradually took over the manor from 1679. The Schönbrunn family remained owners until 1849 and expanded the building from nine to thirteen window axes. From 1849 onwards, Miltach Castle changed private owners several times.
