Möllersdorf Castle

Möllersdorf Castle is a former castle in Möllersdorf, a cadastral community of Traiskirchen in Lower Austria.

The building was already built before 1700 by one of the Counts Czernin. However, ownership changed rapidly until, in 1781, under Emperor Joseph II, it was converted into a barracks along with the associated court.

At the beginning of the 19th century, a military hospital was established, later a convalescent home. In 1873, a military penal institution was housed in the building.

From 1920 to 1925, it served as a civilian penal institution, until in 1927 the city of Traiskirchen bought the building and converted it into apartments – the Schusterhof was created.

The building was actually supposed to be demolished towards the end of the 20th century. However, this was prevented by monument protection, and the city of Traiskirchen began renovating the building in 2002. A state kindergarten was established, and some old relics such as stone coats of arms or frescoes were restored in the process.
