Möllersdorf Castle

The origins of Möllersdorf Castle date back to before 1700, when it was built by a Count Czernin. It changed hands several times in the following decades until it was converted into a barracks in 1781 under Emperor Joseph II. In the early 19th century, it served as a military hospital and later as an infirmary. From 1873, the building housed a military penal institution, which was transformed into a civilian penal institution from 1920 to 1925. In 1927, the city of Traiskirchen acquired the property, converted it into apartments, and named it "Schusterhof." Although the castle was slated for demolition at the end of the 20th century, monument protection prevented this plan. The city of Traiskirchen began renovations in 2002, establishing a state kindergarten and restoring old elements such as stone coats of arms and frescoes.
