Mönchshof Castle is located in the Siebleben district of Gotha, Thuringia. Originally used as a court, it evolved into a castle building that now serves as a residential complex, with its park grounds being a local recreation area.

History+

The origins of Mönchshof date back to the monks of Reinhardsbrunn Monastery, who gave the estate its name and later sold it. The current castle structure was built in 1729. Duke Ernst II acquired the castle in 1797 for 40,000 Goldmark as a wedding gift and summer residence for his son August, after which the grounds were transformed into a landscape garden. In the 19th century, the castle hosted numerous personalities.
