Mönchstein Castle

The first documented mention of a building at this location was in 1350 as the “Tetelheimer Turm”, named after the Tetlhaimer family. It later became known as Mönchsteinturm. From 1419 to 1565, the property was owned by the Fröschlmoser family, who added a manor house, stables, and a chapel in 1531. After being sold to Wolf Windisch in 1565, the ownership changed hands several times until it was acquired by Mülln Abbey in 1622 and expanded into a three-story tower in 1643. In 1654, the Benedictine University of Salzburg purchased the property and built a “Professorenschlösschen” for recreation.
