In Villach-St. Martin, Carinthia, Mörtenegg Castle, also known as Martinseck or Dinzlschloss, is a historic building. It features cubic architecture and distinctive corner oriels, with a history dating back to the 15th century.

History+

The origins of Mörtenegg Castle lie in a free court of the Khevenhüller family, documented in the 15th century. Around 1550, Sigmund Khevenhüller had the current castle built on this site. Ownership changed hands: in 1622, Hans Widmann was the owner, followed by the Grotta von Grottenegg family in 1637. After 1874, Dr. Ignaz Dinzl acquired the property. In 1944, Else Dinzl bequeathed the castle to the city of Villach. From 1953 to 2004, it served as an apprentice dormitory for the Carinthian provincial government.
