Schloss Monaise, a pleasure palace from the late 18th century, is situated on the Moselle in Trier. It is considered one of the best-preserved examples of a Villa suburbana of that era in Germany.

History+

The construction of Schloss Monaise took place between 1779 and 1783. The architect was François Ignace Mangin, who designed it as a summer residence for Philipp Franz Wilderich Nepomuk von Walderdorf, then Dean of Trier Cathedral and later Prince-Bishop of Speyer. To realize the estate, the village of Niederkirch was demolished. The palace featured representative rooms on the first floor, a simpler upper floor for servants, and a large terrace with a grand staircase, surrounded by a park.
