Montfort Castle, an edifice on Lake Constance, is the landmark of the municipality of Langenargen. It rises on a headland with architecture reminiscent of Moorish style elements.

History+

On the site of today's Montfort Castle once stood the ruins of Argen Castle. King Wilhelm I of Württemberg acquired these ruins in 1858 with the intention of building a Moorish-inspired villa there, originally to be named Villa Argena. After his death in 1864, his successor King Karl of Württemberg continued the construction project and named the completed building Montfort Castle. The construction was finished in 1867.
