Montplaisir Castle (Roter Bau)
The Niederwürzbacher Palaces are a Baroque ensemble in Niederwürzbacher (Blieskastel, Saarpfalz-Kreis, Saarland) consisting of the palaces Annahof, Monplaisir, and Philippsburg, the latter on Mandelbachtal territory. The palaces are grouped around the Würzbacher Weiher (pond).
In the last quarter of the 18th century, the Counts of der Leyen had a total of five small palaces or country houses built near their residence in Blieskastel, in an extensive park around the Niederwürzbacher Weiher. The originator of this plan is currently unknown, but court architect Peter Rehais is documented in various invoices. The complex was destroyed in 1792 during the French Revolution. The estate "Bon voisin" (1786-89), the pleasure palace "Monplaisir" and the Annahof survived the wars, while the pleasure palace "Bagatelle" (1786-92) along with the large Philippsburg Palace were lost.
Monplaisir+
Monplaisir Palace (also known as Roter Bau) was built as a country house for Countess Maria Anna in 1785/86 by Peter Reheis. The building core contains a mill that already existed in the Middle Ages. The bel étage housed the Countess's apartment.
A single-story, red-plastered residential building with a mansard roof is flanked by lower farmyards. The entire country house complex is a typical example of a so-called separated complex, meaning that the single-story economic wings are not connected to each other. They function as wing buildings, enclosing the inner courtyard on three sides. The eastern wing was only built in 1829, in imitation of the western one.
