Moosburg Castle

The castle is surrounded on the east, north, and west by a retaining wall; in the northwest and on the north side, the foundations of towers can be seen, and in the northeast stands a round tower. The complex consists of two massive, slightly axially offset four-story building cubes with a high hipped gable roof; the western part was extended at the beginning of the 16th century and in the fourth quarter of the 16th century, the eastern wing then in the 17th century. An eastern arcaded walkway running in a north-south direction, added at the beginning of the 17th century, connects the towering castle complex with its low two-story south wing, the former economic section. Integrated into the arcaded walkway wing is the ashlar portal, an iron-plated gate with the coat of arms of Hektor von Ernau (bell) and his wife, née Keutschach (turnip), dated 1616. Above it is a marble double coat of arms Kronegg-Zinzendorff, dated 1688. Recessed to the west at the south corner rests the castle chapel with a tent roof and lantern, to the east a portal with a straight lintel, to the south two high round-arched windows. The square room is equipped with a wooden coffered ceiling and floral painting; the same painting can also be found on the wooden gallery.
