West of the village of Moosburg in Carinthia, Austria, Moosburg Castle rises on a hill. It is known for its late Gothic architecture.

History+

The origins of Moosburg Castle date back to the early 16th century, when it was likely built under Georg von Ernau. The Ernau family, who owned the castle since the beginning of the 16th century, shaped the complex. Under Ulrich II von Ernau and his son Hektor, a redesign and expansion took place. In the course of the Counter-Reformation, the Protestant Ernaus had to leave Carinthia and sold the property to Johann Weber von Ehrenthal in 1630.
