History+
The early history of the castle is marked by differing accounts. While some sources name Udo Mor von Rode as the first owner who built a fortified court, others refer to Knight Johann Moyr von deme Broichge in 1328 as the beginning of the castle's history. The Moir von Broichs family owned Morsbroich until 1389. Afterwards, various owners followed, including Albrecht von Zweiffel from 1437 and Heinrich von Ossenberg from 1491. In 1619, the Teutonic Order acquired the knight's seat, and several regional commanders resided there. In 1757, Ignaz Felix Freiherr von Roll zu Bernau had the dilapidated building demolished and a Rococo castle built by 1775, modeled after Falkenlust Hunting Lodge. After secularization and French rule, the castle came into the possession of the Cologne banker Abraham Schaaffhausen in 1817/18. It later passed to the A.
