On a mountain spur above the Jagst river in the Hohenlohe region stands Morstein Castle, a complex from the Staufer era. Particularly striking is the palas, which was rebuilt in the Renaissance style after a fire in the 16th century, giving the structure its present castle character.

History+

The origins of Morstein Castle date back to the 13th century, when the Lords of Morstein erected the knight's castle, first documented in 1240. By the mid-14th century, the Staufer-era complex passed into the possession of the knightly family of the Lords of Crailsheim, who own the castle to this day. After a fire in 1571, the palas, along with a round tower of the core castle, was rebuilt as a Renaissance-style castle.
