Mosbach Castle, a structure with roots in the Staufer period, is located in the city of Mosbach. It once served as a residence and refuge for electors and is only partially preserved today.
History+
The origins of Mosbach Castle can be traced back to the 12th century, during the Staufer era. It existed even before Otto I elevated the city of Mosbach to a residential town. The castle repeatedly offered the Heidelberg electors protection from epidemics, as Mosbach, unlike Heidelberg, was situated away from the main travel routes.
