The History of the Building+

The castle was built in the first half of the 17th century by the Barons of Münch. In 1807, the castle burned down and was subsequently rebuilt.

From the Barons of Münch to the Counts of Schönburg-Hinterglauchau+

The Münch family died out in 1757. The castle and the estate were inherited by the Counts of Schönburg-Hinterglauchau. The castle remained in their possession until 1945.

The Castle in the GDR Era+

After the expropriation in 1945, the castle served various purposes. It was first a refugee camp, then a school, and later a retirement home. The castle underwent several renovations during this time, which, however, did not always take historical preservation into account.

The Castle After the Reunification+

After the reunification, the castle was initially empty. In 1993, it was acquired by a private investor who extensively renovated it. Today, the castle houses a hotel and a restaurant. It is also used for events and conferences.

Architecture and Features+

The castle is a four-winged complex with a rectangular courtyard. The main building is a three-story building with a high hipped roof. The facades are structured by pilasters and cornices. The most striking feature is the portal on the south side, which is flanked by two towers.

The Interior of the Castle+

The interior of the castle has been extensively renovated and modernized. However, some historical elements have been preserved, such as the stucco ceilings in the ballroom and the chapel. The castle also houses a valuable art collection, which includes paintings, sculptures, and furniture from various eras.
